Feedback on the drum'n'bass discussion: Is d'n'b getting too hard?? ... ICQ messages with Mineral: Mineral: goddamnit i'm drunk, interesting discussion about D'n'B getting "too" rough at your site btw. Shambler: thanks you were supposed to be here 3 weeks ago to send me your views =) Mineral: heh, wish I was here. I would've definitely given you my views... Actually I think I can write personally my views to you about the subject, but not now that i'm drunk.. eh... Shambler: oh go on, that would be very funny i expect.... Mineral: Ah well ok: "Firstly, in my opinion, dark & rough (the newest trend) D'n'B is really good. Specially when I hear such stuff on clubs etc, it really makes me go mad etc. The "wicked" basslines / samples with lots of disortion are nice; it is needed though that the bassline _must_ have a melody in it. Since this kind of trend has been developing for a while now, I think it will start changing to something else within 2 years. heh.... More melodic, but still deep bass samples with the traditional Amen loops is my guess for the next "trend" of D'n'B. So back to old'school with "more tempo" / more 'severe' melody... You can never know though... (remember I'm drunk) Shambler: okay yeah some people seem to be doing that, bringing back the old skool but with a tougher, modern feel i also like a lot of the harder d'n'b these days.....there just seems to be too much and it's hard to get hold of anything else unless you go right the other way to bukem's stuff... Mineral: yeah and IMO you simply have to find the "pearls" from the mad amounts of hard dnb. Speaking of what kind of DnB I like, I could say: "I like everything". But I'm more onto rough dnb too atm. THough there's nothing wrong with LTJ Bukem stuff or 4Hero stuff etc. But rough dnb is my mood now... Shambler: hmmm yeah... mine is a bit of everything....it used to be just dark/rough but now i like all sorts as long as it's got plenty of sounds going on and isn't just minimal and boring Mineral: yeah I see... what about having only dark bassline + fast beat (for example amen, or a fast dance floor styled dnb beat?) Shambler: yeah that's okay because generally a dark bassline is quite a continuous sound, and amens have certainly got a lot of sounds in them BUT i would prefer it with some musical stuff as well - i've always liked music with hardness mixed with nice melodies as long as it's not just boring 2step with a minimal bassline... ...
