Sham's Top Ten Gabber CDs: All of these are worth trying - the top 5 are all about equal. Generally they are the harder style of gabber rather than the cheesier European style, but they cover the full range of good gabber. Also mix tapes are a good way to get good gabber, but are hard to get hold of. 0. Bonus recommendation: Any mix tape genuinely by DJ HMS (UK). Might be hard to get hold of but HMS ownz speedcore big time, very, very fast and hard, highly recommended. 1. DOA - "New York City Speedcore" (Industrial Strength) Uncompromising nosebleed style, very aggressive with lots of gangsta samples, thrash guitars and that sort of thing. DOA do it best and many tracks are speedcore classics. 2. DJ Producer & Clarkee - "Helter Skelter Anthology 95-96" (Helter Skelter) The ravier side of gabber, ranging from bouncy techno, through to full on hardcore techno. From the most largest rave company in the UK, very typical of the rave sets of these two excellent hardcore techno DJs, full of great, classic tracks. 3. Various - "Industrial Fucking Strength Vol. 1" (Industrial Strength) Showcasing the full range of one of the finest gabber labels, right from their early slow stuff through to hellish nosebleed style. Also comes with two very good, diverse mix CDs. 4. Various - "Technohead 1", "2", "3", "4" (React) Classic series that goes from earliest industrial techno right the way through to speedcore and breakcore. Full spectrum of gabber, mixed by Lee Newman who sadly died of cancer =(. 5. Various - "Terrordrome V - Darkside from Hell" (edel) First Terrordrome CD after they switched from the ravier label Mokum. Various styles and feels, but it's all hard, fast, and mostly noisy. Some excellent tracks. 6. Loftgroover presents - "Speedcore" (Harmless) Loftgroover is one of the UKs most renowned speedcore DJs, and this double mix CD covers his style right from the early 90's European gabber, through to much harder industrial style, with finally some deathmetal mixed in. 7. Various - "Terrordrome VI", "VII" (edel) Following on from Terrordrome V, don't have quite the same impact but never the less some very good tracks, especially by Nordcore GMBH. 8. Manu Le Malin - "Biomechanik" (Rage Records) More in an industrial, experimental vein, this double CD by France's top gabber DJ starts with hard purist techno and gradually builds up the BPMs to manic speedcore. 9. Various - "Terrordrome I", "II", "III", "IV" (Mokum) Earlier series that showcases the classic Mokum label. Lots of earlier gabber classics with some pretty cool tracks on here, especially by The Original Gabba / Chosen Few. 10. DJ Producer & Hellfish - "No Mistakes Allowed" (Deathchant) Current UK style from one of it's more successful labels. All hard hitting and sometimes noisy, but with hints of trance, breakbeat and industrial feel to some tracks. Shambler, team-sh@planetquake.com
